How Abacus helps in brain Development ?

Are you struggling with your child to do basic maths / Is your child weak in calculations,is he counting on fingertips to add small numbers.

Or

Feels Calculation is a phobia or a tough task.

If yes

So the simple Solution is Abacus Education

Lets understand in detail about Abacus Education .

Or If you already know about abacus  education and  you are planning for your child to join abacus classes then also please  go through my blog , it will definitely add more value  in your knowledge.

What is Abacus ?

abacus

Abacus is a brain development Course launched in India near 2009 to increase the ability of mental calculation with the help of Visualization process of the brain. This course is designed for school going kids from the grade 2 to grade 7 preferably ,

Benefits of Abacus Education

  • It Improves concentration power
  • It enhances listening skills
  • Enhances visualization and imagination power
  • Increases self confidence
  • Improves speed accuracy in calculation

How Abacus helps in brain Development ? Can Abacus Improves Memory or Methods of Learning

There are  3 methods of learning .

1  Auditory means we learn by hearing.

2  Visual, means learning by watching

3 . Kinesthetic  means by doing

Auditory :- The things you hear, You  remember for a limited period of time and than we  forget

Visual :- The things you see in graphics you remember for a long period of time because the visual image stores in our right side of our brain here i have to mention that brain is divided into two parts right side and left side whatever we hears stores in our left side brain and whatever we see the visual image stores in our right side of brain.

The right side of brain has capacity of holding data for a long period of time that’s why we remember visual things for a long period of time

Kinesthetic  :- The things you  do yourself, remember forever

Although all the methods are good enough for learning but science proves that visual and kinesthetic methods are the  most effective methods in terms of learning anything,

As you see that most of the schools adopted smart classes concept in which teachers explain the concept on screen and students understand the concept very easily because of visual approach and they remember it for a long period of time.

Next example is in our childhood we all have seen Ramayana on television screen, so now if somebody asks about Ramayana we all  can easily answer about their character and story instead of any other scripture.

As described  above, the importance of the right brain and left brain here. I have to mention that People who are right handed, their left brain works more and the  people who are left handed, their right brain works more. Means  in an X cross manner .

Left handed People are more creative and their memories are more powerful .

When Both hands work on an abacus tool so that the whole brain get activated and the child  utilizes both segments of the  brain and  sets the beads in the mind , this way Abacus improves Memory.

Which Abacus tool is Best in India

There are two types of abacus tools . One is Chinese and the other is Japanese .

In India, a Japanese tool  adopted to  introduce abacus education for brain development. This tool is called SoroBon . The tool is divided into two segments of beads , upper beads and lower beads .  Upper side is having single bead and Lower side is having four beads.

Each Lower bead has  value  1   and each Upper bead has value  5 .

By this  Japanese tool calculation is done  by sliding beads up and down .

Is Abacus good for children or What is the perfect age for Abacus Education ?

Most of the parents need clarity about the age criteria to join class for their kids.

As I described in the beginning it is designed for grade 2 to 7 so the 6 to 14 year  age group is best for abacus education.

There is a scientific reason why this age criteria is best because in this stage the child’s brain is in the developing stage so the brain can be trained to adopt visualization methods and grab the knowledge easily.

So if abacus training is given in childhood,  a child can do faster calculation and get  desired results in their studies.

Here I want to clarify that Training can be taken at any age  as  TEACHERS take training in their late age say about the ages of 25 or later also but the performance of a student will be always faster than a teacher  because teacher has learnt the technique  after his/her age of brain developing stage .

I hope I will be able to clear this topic.

Some parents look at abacus  education for their kids in  grade 1 also . so let me clarify this also,

If your child is in 1st class and he knows add and less concept by the Indian method very well and aware about the ones ,tens and  hundred place value  or he  can tell  for example  3+7=?  2+3= ?  very easily  than you can prefer abacus classes for your child in grade 1 also .

As there are many ways to do the same thing  but firstly we adopt a single method then  we use  multiple ways to do the same thing in an easy way.

Sometimes grade 1 student feel burden  and get confused in both the methods ( Indian and Japanese)

but if   your child is in  grade 2 , then in India, usually in every school these concepts are taught  which means your child knows about the Indian mathematics system.

So Abacus is the easy way of doing calculations so every child must take the training for abacus.

How many levels in abacus classes ?

There are many different Institutes that provide Abacus Education .  The real  course curriculum consists of Addition , subtraction , Multiplication and Division. Some  have divided the full course into 8  levels and some have divided it into 10 levels.

Which Abacus Class is Best ?

There are some factors by which anyone can decide which course is better. First of all one should enquire about the full curriculum of the course, the feedback of the instructor  and the individual attention given by the instructor to the child  , Limited students batch.  Managing Competitions among the children.   All these factors decide the quality of a best abacus class.

Difference between Abacus and Vedic maths

Now a days for calculation  improvement abacus and vedic maths both are popular

So some of the parents have confusion also that which course they should opt for their kid

So let me explain about this also

Abacus improves the visualization process and by visualization ability child improve the calculation starting from single digit addition subtraction to square of a number and getting result upto five digit .

In vedic math focus is on the short procedure of calculation like  please refer my another blog on vedic math .

and see the vedic math demo video

Both are used for the purpose of brain development and faster calculation .

Conclusion

Abacus works by learning techniques and methods. It works wonders on the human brain in developing, and makes the best version of your child. It sharpens the mind. By sliding beads, your child learns  addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and finally performs mentally and gives the result in their academic as well as in real world The qualities developed by learning abacus reflect in child performance.
